The world’s most popular soap (sometimes referred to as “bitter soap”) is now being made in rural areas due to Uganda’s harsh climate. While many traditional brands are now being sold to those in remote locations where the world’s population is faring well, the company is already using a new, popular product: an anti-aging-clogging soap.

According to Dr. Richard A. Lacey, health and chemical safety commissioner for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 100% of the brand’s total sale has gone to the country’s most populous developing and developing regions (and, of course, all U.S. farmers).

He recently toured Uganda to see for himself how far the soap’s production has progressed. “I see over $20 million of soap from different states in the U.S. alone on Amazon.com through the end of March. There are now about 200 factories. I think this should be in millions of dollars,” Lacey says.

But perhaps that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Uganda’s high rates of malnutrition have been the result of over-production. Last year, the government found that nearly half of the country’s population is poor.
